Century Initiative Partners with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable

September 29, 2022

As Canada emerges from the pandemic, it is more evident than ever that our labour market has a talent shortage. Bringing in talent through immigration and international students is key to helping fill the growing skills gap.

On September 29th, 2022, Century Initiative partnered with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) to support their event on immigration and employment. BHER is committed to bringing together Canada’s post-secondary's, employers and governments to enhance Canada's economy through recruitment, training, and retention of international talent.

The event featured Martin Basiri, co-founder & CEO Applyboard, and representatives from The Government of Canada. It was moderated by John Stackhouse and was hosted by David McKay, President and CEO, RBC.

Century Initiative was pleased to see the federal government announce on October 7 that it would temporarily lift work limits on international students and automate some study permit renewal processes.

International students are vital to our economic prosperity and to addressing our labour challenges. Removing the cap will help students better support themselves while they are in Canada and gain valuable Canadian work experience. This creates a more conducive environment for their success and makes Canada a more attractive destination.
